Top 8 Best Sites to Download Subtitle for Your Movies & TV Series

Movie Subtitles are captions that appear at the bottom of a movie or television screen to translate or transcribe dialogues and/or narratives. They’re a great way for language learners to acquire words and slang while viewing shows in a foreign language.

They provide dialogue transcription from source to target language as well as narrations of background events, transcriptions of often inaudible sounds, and so on for ordinary moviegoers.

If you do not use a movie streaming service such as Netflix or Hulu, the movies you watch may not have subtitles in your target language or may not have any movie subtitles at all. But that doesn’t have to be the end of the story because there are a plethora of places where you can download them and manually add them to your favorite movie-watching app.

As is customary, it is my responsibility to offer you with a curated selection of the best you can use. Many of them show movie subtitles in various languages and formats, as well as pertinent ratings and comments.

1. OpenSubtitles

OpenSubtitles is one of the largest movie subtitle platforms, with over 5 million movie subtitles in 50+ languages. Elmedia Player for Mac includes subtitle functionality, allowing users to watch movies with subtitles without having to manually download them. Users can also post subtitles, make requests, participate in a forum, download recommended browsers and plugins, and subscribe to the blog.

The new website simplifies the process of locating subtitles by allowing users to search for subtitles by series or movie title, IMDB ID, or by going to their own pages.

2. Podnapisi

Podnapisi is a fantastic platform for discovering movie subtitles in various languages for movies and television shows. It currently hosts 2,078,527 subtitles for 58,959 movies and 6,715 series in 100 languages, 61,697 of which are created by the community and 00,235 of which are adapted for hearing impaired and hard-of-hearing (SDH) audiences!

Every day, new movie subtitles are added to Podnapisi, and you can search for them by year, genre, keywords, or utilizing the tools in its advanced search engine. You can also make a user account with them and participate in the forum, where you can post questions, subtitle requests, and so on.

3. YIFY Subtitles

YIFY Subtitles is a movie subtitle-only platform operated by YTS (a.k.a. YIFY Torrents), a P2P group known for sharing movies over BitTorrent. Unlike most of their competitors, YTS uploads were in HD and kept the file size to a minimum. This set them out from the crowd.

YIFY Subtitles has a simple, dark-mode interface, and users may search for subtitles by keywords, year of release, genres, languages, and popularity. All subtitles are piracy and should be avoided.ad-free. However, unlike the other options on this list, you cannot make requests or participate in forums.

4. Subscene

Subscene is what I term an old-timer website. Since 2005, it has provided users with free subtitles in a variety of languages, with the possibility for users to create their own subtitle uploads, participate in the forum, and request subtitles in several target languages. However, a user account is necessary for these additional choices.

Subscene’s user interface offers a light and dark mode, and in addition to movie and TV show subtitles, you can also download subtitles for popular music videos to sing along with your friends.

5. Addic7ed

Another excellent one-stop shop for getting movie and TV show subtitles is Addic7ed
It doesn’t have the most opulent user interface, but it’s well-organized. My favorite feature is the option to display movie and TV show broadcast dates in an RSS feed at the top of the website, with new releases prominently displayed.

Users can make movie subtitle requests, submit their own, interact in forums, and volunteer to join the development team. The sole disadvantage of Addic7ed is that downloads must be completed while signed in. While the subtitles and user accounts are both free, obtaining subtitles requires the creation of a ‘free’ account.

6. English-subtitles

English-subtitles takes pride in having the greatest collection of English subtitles and has been collecting subtitles for both movies and TV series since 2015. It has a simple dark mode UI with search options based on keywords or the linked lists provided on the site.

7. iSubtitles

iSubtitles ‘ streamlined user interface allows users to search for movie subtitles by title, release year, genre, or anything else. On its homepage, a list of movies with their subtitle count is provided, and you may also explore movies by nation, language, and genre.

iSubtitles has indexed 68,573 movies and 1,584,090 subtitles since its inception in 2015. You’ll undoubtedly find what you’re looking for here.

8. SubDivX

SubDivX is one of the largest databases of free, legal movie subtitles that can be accessed through video players and media centers (e.g. Kodi). Users that have access to distribute subtitles can upload them, while others can engage in the forums.

You may search for subtitles by using the query links (e.g. most commented), and while the UI isn’t perfect, you’ll get the hang of it after a few tries

Notable Observations

Modern video players include a feature that allows users to download subtitles without leaving the app. Excellent examples include Elmedia Player for macOS and VLC Media Player. Activate the subtitles in VLC by going to View > VLsub.

There are numerous popular websites where you can obtain subtitles, but I’ve left them off this list because they do not use suitable encryption methods (e.g. no SSL certificate). You’d probably have discovered the subtitles you’re looking for by the time you got to #8.

However, if you’re curious and want to check out some others, here’s a list of the most popular ones:

  • Subtitle Seeker is a website that searches for movie subtitles.
  • TVsubs.net specializes solely in TV show subtitles.
  • Subtitles for movies – only subtitles for movies
  • Subtitles.cz is the most popular Czech website for subtitles.
  • SubTitles for DivX
  • Subtitles from Around the World
  • HR – film subtitles

That’s all there is to it, guys. The top eight websites for downloading TV show and movie subtitles.
